New Year’s Resolutions for Your Home’s HVAC Systems To Make Now

2022 is almost here! The start of a new year is the ideal time to take a fresh approach to your home’s HVAC system. Whether you’re considering investing in a new system for your home or you want to get the most out of the one you have, the start of a new year is a great time to start making plans. With this in mind, consider at least some of the following New Year’s resolutions for your HVAC systems (and sticking to them of course)

Resolve to Change Those HVAC Filters Regularly

One of the most important New Year’s resolutions you can make in regards to your home’s HVAC systems is actually one of the easiest to keep. Change those filters regularly! Whether it is the height of the winter or peak of the summer your HVAC systems are – in one way or another – in use all year round and so it is crucial that you plan to change those filters that are in use at least once every three months (maybe more at the height of the heat or depths of the cold)

Setting a schedule to replace your air filter might seem like a minor thing, but this replacement will have a big impact on your HVAC system throughout the year. Air filters prevent dust, dirt, and other airborne particles from entering the system, keeping it clean and preventing frequent breakdowns.

And clean air filters can do much more. They improve indoor air quality by removing harmful particles from your home’s air supply and increasing system operating efficiency by keeping airflow smooth.

Schedule Preventive Maintenance

Another smart way to keep your system running smoothly is to schedule preventive maintenance. You should schedule a tuneup for your air conditioner or heat pump in the early spring and another for your furnace in the early fall.

Resolve to Invest in a Smart Thermostat

If your HVAC systems still rely on a manual thermostat in 2022, then it is really is the time to make a change. While these ‘old-fashioned’ devices do allow you to adjust the temperature and switch from heat to cooling, and probably seem to work just fine by still having one you are missing the energy-efficient – and money saving – features that smart thermostats offer. Plus, new thermostats allow you to control & monitor your home from you mobile device even when you are away from your home. Just think, how convenient it would be to change your thermostat after tucking in for bed without having to make a step!

Resolve to Upgrade Your HVAC System

If your HVAC system is reaching the end of its lifespan (generally 10 to 15 years for air conditioners and 15 to 20 years for furnaces) start thinking about an upgrade. While a new HVAC system is a big investment, it offers great ROI in terms of both energy efficiency – you’ll be surprised how fast those energy bills fall once a new system is in place – and in general efficiency at what the systems are supposed to do – heat and cool – across the board.

Resolve to Plan Ahead

If you’ve made New Year’s resolutions before, you know that creating a plan and sticking to that plan are the keys to success in terms of keeping them. When working with your HVAC system, planning ahead can be especially beneficial.

Scheduling preventive maintenance before the heating or cooling season starts lowers the chance that your HVAC system will have a major breakdown at the peak of summer or winter. Similarly, investing in a new furnace, air conditioner, or heat pump during the off-season can mean better prices, a more convenient installation schedule, and extra time to consider the best option for your family.
