Summer is almost here, and that means the heat is almost here to stay, meaning coming home to a beautifully cool home is a must. You may have even run your air conditioning a few times already this season – we have had a few warm days that may have warranted doing so – but have you given it its semi-annual health checkup yet?
Your air conditioner should be inspected by a professional technician at least once every year. Ideally, though this checkup should be scheduled twice a year—once in the spring and the once in the fall. This way its health is checked out just before it has to begin putting in the hard work it was designed to do all summer long and then just after its duties are over for the season.
However, the reality is that many people don’t give thought to even an annual AC checkup until a problem occurs. Until they come home from a long day at work to a house that’s sticky, hot and unbearable rather than the cool oasis they had been expecting. Until it becomes fairly clear that their AC just wasn’t up to the job this year and appears to have gone on strike.
The problem is at that point AC technicians are in the middle of their busy season too – or one of our busy seasons anyway – and may not be able to get to you quite as quickly as usual (although we do try) In addition, it’s almost always going to be more expensive to repair a broken air conditioning system than it is to do preventative maintenance on a working one.
At Arctic Air, we offer a $65 tune-up special for HVAC systems at this time of year, so that’s a very good reason to book one now. But if you need a little more convincing, here are a few more of the benefits of giving your AC a little extra TLC before the summer heat really sets in:
Benefit #1: Avoid unexpected breakdowns
A system that breaks down unexpectedly in the middle of a heatwave can cause a great discomfort for the household, to say the least. A broken AC makes living in a home a sticky, sweaty nightmare. And even if you have an office to escape to for a few (air-conditioned) hours the kids have no school and your poor pets certainly have no place else to go, so they’ll be left sweating it out (and being very unhappy about that fact) until a repair tech can come out and take a look.
A preseason AC tune-up can find any little problems that could turn into bigger issues and fix them before they ever do, something you’ll really appreciate on those 90-degree days.
Benefit #2: Increased lifespan
Another great benefit of an air conditioner checkup is that it usually results in increased lifespan of the unit. Our technician will inspect the air conditioner and perform needed repairs in the case that any problems are detected. And this routine inspection will help ensure that there is minimum wear-and-tear on the unit, increasing its lifespan and resulting in cost savings for you in the long run.
Benefit #3: Ensure optimal cooling and air quality
A system that is properly maintained will use less energy. On the other hand, a system that is not maintained properly will draw more power to cool the room. As a result, your energy bill will increase, often significantly. Regular maintenance of the unit will help ensure optimal cooling and maximum comfort for the household and lower energy bills too.
In addition, all winter long, while your AC has been sitting idle, it’s been collecting dust and debris. It may even have a ‘case of the mildews’, all of which adds up to a unit that is likely to spit out some pretty nasty stuff once turned on, resulting in the kind of air you really don’t want to breathe. A preseason checkup of your HVAC system includes a basic cleaning so that won’t happen, allowing you – and your family – to breathe easier in your cool home too.
Schedule your $65 AC tune-up special today, you won’t regret it.Â
